Britain is the worst hit country in Europe when it comes to credit card fraud, according to new research published today. Figures from a survey by the European Security Transport Association (Esta) show that across the continent, 11 per cent of people (22.8 million) have been hit by some form of credit card fraud. That figure rises to almost 20 per cent, or seven million, in Britain. Esta's research said that the level of fraud was prompting many people to return to using cash for payments, with a third of victims switching away from using their cards. Spokesman Mike Bown said: "It is incredible how many people across Britain have fallen victim to card fraudsters and unsurprising that so many victims favour a return to cash."
