58% of MyCallcredit customers are 'Very Concerned' about the risk of having their identity stolen.
Research carried out by MyCallcredit in February 2006 revealed that of the 58% very concerned customers only a third thought they knew what to do to avoid becoming a victim of identity fraud. Only 18% of customers knew exactly what to do to prevent their identities being stolen.
It was found however that of the MyCallcredit customers who were surveyed 84% did shred documents in an attempt to minimise the risk of identity fraud. Over half checked their credit report regularly as part of protecting themselves from the identity thieves.
Worryingly the survey did reveal that a third of MyCallcredit customers were not sure when they would become aware of having had their identity stolen. On average it can take 9 - 12 months to sort out and repair your credit rating if you have become a victim of identity theft. The longer you are unaware of having your ID stolen the longer this process could take.
